Another transfer gone - Email 12.17.12

Wow, I can't believe how fast time has gone...Done with the twelve week training program and am on to my 3rd transfer out in Oklahoma. I feel like I should still be in my first couple of weeks. You don't get the hang of missionary work....ever...partially because the Lord humbles you and partially because the Lord humbles you.

So anyways, Elder Jacobson left me today. He completed all 2 years of his mission. Crazy, it was so weird to send him home. Glad I am not in his shoes, phew ;) And if you're reading this elder jacobson, you are one of the worst drivers known to the human race...love ya man :). So I am getting a new companion this wednesday and his name is Elder Bird, or Byrd...not really sure yet, but he is a youngin just like me. He has only been out for one transfer and I have been out for two. Then in our district, there is Elder Ravsten who has been out for 3 and then he is also training a brand new missionary. Not too much exxperience, but we are all excited because we know when we put our trust in the Lord and His work, He will teach us and guide us to "those who will receive us". The key this transfer is to "get the lid off". Here's what I mean.

So I heard a story in the MTC about fleas (you can also look this up on youtube: fleas in a jar). When you put a bunch of fleas in a jar without a lid on them, they will jump right out. If you put a lid on them, they will hit the top of the lid and after awhile, they will learn that it hurts and they will compromise and jump just high enough to where they don't hit the top of the lid. After they have compromised, when you take the lid off, they will continue to jump the same height as if the lid were still on. They won't jump out. The weird thing is that when those fleas have babies, there babies will also only jump as high as their parents as if the lid was on. However, if you put brand new fleas in the jar, then those brand new fleas will jump right out. What's the moral of the story? STOP PUTTING LIDS ON OURSELVES AND OUR POTENTIAL! Take your lid off and trust the Lord and His promise that "If ye have faith in me, ye shall have power to do whatsoever is expedient in me" (Moroni 7). Everyone always says, well if God wills it then anything is possible...well duh, He is God. Do we truly believe it though? Think about that, and then also think about whether or not there is a lid on your potential. If there is, exercise some faith and get that lid outta there!! Put your trust in the Lord and He will take care of you. He knows your needs and desires, all we have to do is put our trust in Him and ask and we "shall receive".

I know that the Lord truly loves and knows each one of us personally. He is looking forward to answering all of our prayers. I know that all things are possible unto Him. Just put your faith in Him and never "turn to the left, or right". Miracles will happen, its completely 100% okay to EXPECT miracles to happen. Believe!!

I love all you guys and I am excited for Christmas, what are you going to do to help someone else out this year that needs help? I look forward to hearing from you all everyday, don't disappoint and don't be lazy ;) haha jkkk!! Keep on truckin and remember "get the corn, outta your faces and take the lid off of your jar" GO DO HARD THINGS, go BE SOMEONE that the Lord wants you to be. :)

Love ALWAYS,

Elder Dallin Cutler

Roasted Round 2 - Email 11.10.12

YO!

This week was full of excitement!! The thrill of hanging over a toilet and puking your brains out!! EXHILARATING!! :) lawl. Okay but in all seriousness, I got sick this week on wednesday and just straight puked off 10 pounds, its whatever. Whatever keeps the weight off right?! ;) Sike. Well to top it all off Elder Jacobson is going home soon :( poor kid, we're gonna miss him, but he worked hard and now he must find a wife, haha and if you are reading this right now Elder Jacobson, remember our bet ;) 6 months.

This week has flown by. It seems like all weeks fly by. It seems like every transfer goes by a little faster each time, it sounds cliche, but I can't really explain it any other way. It really has been so great. This past week we kept getting dropped hard by different people we are teaching. Something that I have had to ponder about and just accept is that people really have the ability to choose, life or death, eternal happiness or eternal misery. We all have the gift of agency and sometimes it frustrates us as missionaries, but most of the time, it is such a great gift that God has all given us. To choose, what a simple concept.

I have learned so many things this week. Here's one thing that I am learning...

There are so many people in the world today. We are surrounded by friends and families but also by people who we have never met in this life. The cool thing is, before this life, we all knew each other. We all loved each other. We are all children of a loving Heavenly Father who wants the absolute best for us. Unfortunately, but mostly fortunately, He had to test us so that we could grow, He had to see if we would exercise faith in Him and be obedient to the way He wanted us to live to show if if we truly loved Him or not. Thankfully He has given us many tools to have faith in Him. He has given us prophets, scriptures, miracles, prayers to name a few. Most importantly, He gave His Only Begotten in the flesh. However, like i said earlier, we are given agency, and so there is "opposition in all things".

Heavenly Father allows for Satan to work on us, to tempt us because He knows that the only way to grow and become better is to be tested. However, satan is so subtle and so sly in everything he does. He opposes us in many ways. One of those ways is he distracts us. All he has to do is to distract us from our ultimate goal. He does that in many ways. I won't name them all, but seriously ask yourself, how has satan distracted you, because he has. He has distracted us all whether we want to admit it or not. I invite you to repent and turn back to God and self check yourself, it will only make you happier and who doesn't want that :)?

He also lies to us. He makes us feel comfortable. 2 Nephi 28 it talks about how satan lulls us into carnal securities. He makes us feel safe, or comfortable where we are. DON'T give in!! Here's what I am talking about. There are so many people in the world today who say "I am just trying to find my own path" or "I believe that there are many ways one can get to heaven, all religions are good and if we are good people, we will all go back to heaven" "I am comfortable where I am". Wrong. It's a lie. There is ONLY one way and the gateway is "strait" and the pathway is "narrow" (Matthew 6). Do not sell yourself short by thinking that there are many ways. That is deceiving, because truth is truth and light is light. There is no gray. There is truth and then there are lies. I encourage you all to seek truth. Don't sit back and be lulled into all these carnal securities that we have in this day and age. There is only one "truth and light" of the world and that is Jesus Christ. He has given us commandments that we must follow and He has given us the way in which we are to obey these commandments. Why then are people so okay with so many different denominations when there is only one way? Christ tells us that when He comes again, there will be "one fold". All I am saying is that we must seek the truth through prayer and scripture study. Do not be decieved by satan who will try and tell you that "all is well". If you truly BELIEVE in Christ, you will do EVERYTHING in your power to follow Him exactly how He has asked us "for straight is the gate and narrow is the path which leads to eternal life". Don't get too comfortable. :)

Well I love you all and want you to know that OKlahoma City is amazing and so are the people. :) I am so blessed to be out here assisting the Lord in His work to "gather His sheep". I know that the Church of Jesus Christ is once again restored upon this earth and that Christ leads it Himself through prophets and apostles in these latter days. I know that the Book of Mormon and the Bible to be the word of God because I have recieved a confirmation of such through the Holy Ghost as I prayed and sought truth. I leave my testimony and witness to all of you, hoping that you will always remember that I know that my Savior Jesus Christ lives. I love Him and knows He cares for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Get lit. - Email 12.3.12

We got lit this week. If there was ever a week where people hated missionaries, this was the week cause we got stomped on! hahaha!! It was so sad to see all these people just walk over us and drop us like we're hot (which we are and stuff)....but anyways, to put it simply, God taught us many lessons this week. I am so grateful for it.

We met a lot of interesting people this week. For some reason tis' not the season to be happy. We felt like every single person we talked to just wanted to fight or argue or be rude with us. We don't do that stuff, we are just there to help people and teach and invite, if they want to bash, I just tell them "I love you, but we don't want to bring in contention between us" and if they don't stop, then we just say we have to leave. We met this one dude, man he had it out for us. I walked up to Him and asked if we could give him a card real quickly. He said "sure you can give me whatever you want". So we started talking and all of a sudden he started yelling at me about how I am not christian. He said that mormons aren't Christian and I told him of course we are!! We asked what His definition of a christian was and he couldn't tell us. Poor guy just wanted to fight. Anyways, I told him "look we love you brotha, but we aren't here to argue with you, we want to teach you a little bit about what we believe and then you can decide for yourself if we arent christian." Then he started yelling at me that "You don't love me you liar or else you wouldnt be telling me about Joseph Smith!!" and I lost it!! I just started cracking up!! hahaha man, i just can't believe how many confused people there are out there. He was such a nice guy and I wish we could've kept talking but all he wanted to do was argue so we just had to walk away. Anyways...

We had a family who was scheduled to be baptized soon drop us completely and tell us to not come back again. Then another family did the same thing, and then another couple did the same thing...so it was really hard. We really learned to love all of them and to see them not want to accept the truth was really hard emotionally I guess. The best thing about it all was the lessons we learned from this week.

1. Prayer is very real and very powerful. When we pray, our answers will be answered always.
2. Fasting, when done right, works miracles when combined with prayer.
3. We must put ALL of our trust in God. That doesn't mean just 99%...it means you trust Him with everything. Become consecrated to Him. When we do that, He will provide for your needs.

Let me tell you that this week in Oklahoma was difficult. We all have difficult times and we all go through our own struggles, when we get on our knees and leave it up to God and go to work, then He will guide us. He can't direct us if we aren't willing to move in the first place. God has given us so many tools to help us increase our faith. Do all the little things first and the bigger things will result. I promise that. Continue to learn to love, love is a gift from God and when we ask for it, He will enlarge our capacity to love those people who sometimes may be so hard to love. Pray to have your faith increased and to be able to love more fully and deeper like Christ and God love us. When our love becomes as pure as theirs, then we will experience a happiness unparrallelled to anything else.

I want you to know that I love every single one of you guys. I really do and I can say 100% that there is no hate or grudges in my heart, I really truly love you all. We are all God's children, we are all "worth the trouble", and we should act like it. :)

Well, til we meet again ;)

Write me!! Christmas is coming up ;)
